Another inspiring Edible Wales afternoon in Pontypridd's wonderful Glyncoch Community Centre, whose funding was aided by a tweet from Stephen Fry. The project's initial meeting (see previous blog post) focused on gathering phrases and verbal iconography associated with the Rhondda Cynon Taf area, and was richly supplied in that regard by the students, community members, artists and food producers who attended. The second workshop sought to expand that thinking into a visual language, something that would provide the basis of a logo, which all food and drink producers from the region could use to brand and promote their wares. The logo will need to be inclusive, and condense a sense of locality - no easy task. We were lucky to have a group whose vision and articulacy when it came to distilling the experience of a region, with its mix of heritage, aspirations, synergies and contradictions, into simple design was truly impressive.
Again, the workshop was led by Aron Evans of Cardiff-based A&O design, and Nancy Evans of Artis Community, with Sophie Bennett and Rob Bowen of the School of Business and Management, Aberystwyth University. My – Richard Marggraf Turley, Department of English and Creative Writing – own role was to document and throw ideas into the pot. And eat cake. Lots of that. They serve a mean cuppa at GCCC.
For next week, Aron has threatened to bring everything needed to make lino prints. The excitement is palpable.

It seems Aron wasn't joking about bringing lino printmaking equipment. Watch this space ...
